Are comic books kid safe to read? Is there a rating body out there?

I am concerned that what my son reads in comics are too violent. If TV shows gets rated on how mature a reader needs to be then it probably needs to be the same for comic books too. Is there a site i can go to that would have this information?

• What comic books or graphic novels are a good read?
• What are some good comic books to read that would get me back into comics?
• Spiritually speaking, are there any comic books fans here who can tell me where to start with comics?
