Painting scenes from the Book of Mormon has recently been a very important part of the Mormon church. Members of the church desire to share the stories found within the Book of Mormon and to help children understand them by using visual aids. There have been many artists who have painted scenes and stories from that book.

The Book of Mormon is a sacred record to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The book is a record of the ancient people in the American continent. It can be difficult to paint scenes from the book because we really don't know what the styles of clothing were actually like. We are unfamiliar with the details of the culture. Many of the paintings that have been painted have been of the war chapters. Many youth in the Mormon church hang posters of some of their favorite war heroes of the Book of Mormon.

The main painter that members of the church are most familiar with is Arnold Friberg. He painted most of the LDS artwork that is found at the front of the book. He painted many scenes such as, Nephi shaking his brothers, Lehi finding the Liahona, Captain Moroni, the Brother of Jared and so many others.

Del Parson, who painted the most well known and accepted painting of the Savior in the LDS church, also painted a picture of the Brother of Jared.

Though not a member of the LDS faith, Harry Anderson was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist faith, he politely let the church know that he would not paint themes that were unique to the Latter-day Saint movement, such as Book of Mormon characters or Latter-day prophets. He painted many paintings of the life of the savior that members of the LDS faith are very familiar with and hang in many LDS chapels.

Other painters include Minerva Teichert, who painted various scenes that were softer such as King Benjamin preaching from the tower and Nephi and his brothers getting married. Tom Lovell painted the well known painting of Moroni hiding the golden plates.

More modern paintings are hero paintings which are found at LDS bookstores. These are paintings of the big heroes of the Book of Mormon, such as Captain Moroni or the Stripling Warriors painted to be larger than life. The have become very popular in recent years.

Some art might even look familiar to people of other faiths because Book of Mormon prophets and scenes are similar to those of the Bible. This type of art, though not biblical, has biblical roots and might feel familiar to people of other religious affiliations. Most of this art can be found on the church's website, distribution, or at other bookstores.
