How much should I charge for a 3 panel small comic strip that will be published in a weekly national magazine?

I've been looking into this, because I have a comic strip I would love to get published in the daily funnies, but it's not very easy to do, even if your strip is brilliant.

So far as money is concerned it's not a lot I'm afraid, the real money is when it gets syndicated to hundreds (thousands?) of publications. You might be very lucky if you can get $20 for one strip.

Make sure that it is neat and tidy, legible and the size of 11 x 8 (or a % equivalent of, like 5.5 x 4). You also need to send copies (obviously not originals) by registered mail, and the amount you send should be enough to cover several weeks worth, so that the publisher can get an idea of what the strip is about.

Also, send a short and to the point synopsis of the characters, but do not go over-board with it, if you have to explain too much, then your strip will be regarded as not good enough. The characters should come alive in the strip straight away, Readers of it, should be able to know pretty much everything about your characters just in the 3 boxes - which isn't easy.
